Is
it just me or does it feel like it’s an end of an era? First, we
were heartbroken and potentially traumatised by the fact that
Brangelina is no more, and now Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have
announced their separation after almost a decade long romance. It’s
really sad to see these things happen but you’ve got to remember
that celebrities are only people and they fall out of love the same
as everyone else and they can’t stay together just because we want
them too. But let’s take this opportunity and go through the
timeline of Miley and Liam.
2009
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth met in 2009 when
they were cast in the movie adaptation of a Nicolas Sparks novel The
Last Song. They clearly felt a
spark, and you can see it in the movie, but rumors about them dating
started right away. Miley was only 17 and Liam was 19. Such adorable
young love. At first, they tried to hide it and Miley would say that
Liam is her best friend but eventually paparazzi caught them making
out.
2010
At
the beginning of 2010, they confirmed that they are in a relationship
and proved it further by attending an Oscar even together. They also
walked the red carpet for the movie premiere of The
Last Song as a couple. Miley even
said that Liam was her muse for the song Can’t
Be Tamed. She said a lot of the song
is about him. 2010 was also the year they had their first breakup.
Apparently because of Miley’s work schedule they broke up in
August. But by September they were back together, running errands and
going out for dinner as a couple.
In November they took a timeout again.
2011
By 2011 Miley and Liam are back together and
this time they’re saying they’re gonna take things slow and just
enjoy their time together. They go to several events together, walk
some red carpets, pose for some cute couple pictures.
2012
Liam
and Miley attend the Vanity Fair Oscar party together and Liam says
in an interview that Miley makes him really happy. They also go to
the Hunger Games
premiere together and Miley is seen wearing a ring on her finger so
obviously rumors about engagement start spreading like wildfire.
Miley, of course, denies those rumors on Twitter, but in June of the
same year, they confirm that they’re engaged.
2013
2013 started off pretty chill but turned out to
be a very rocky year for the couple. There were rumors about Miley
cheating, sometimes they would go to premieres together, but they
went to separate Oscar parties, the ring on Miley’s finger would
disappear and people would speculate that the engagement is off, but
then the ring would be back. But at the end of the year, Miley
unfollowed Liam on Twitter and a few days later her publicist
confirmed that the engagement is off and they’ve broken up. She
also talks about her breakup in an interview and says that she’s
not dwelling on it, it’s the best time of her life.
2014-2015
Miley starts and ends a relationship with
Patrick Schwarzenegger and also comes out as pansexual. Rumors spread
about her dating Stella Maxwell, but Miley says she’s just enjoying
the single life. Liam in the meantime spends this time saying him and
Miley will always be good friends and that his relationship with
Miley was an important time in his life and you can never choose who
you fall in love with. He also adopts a rescue dog.
2016
Miley goes to Australia and shows up on
Instagram accounts of Liam’s friends. It looks like they might be
back together and having fun down under. By the end of the year the
engagement ring is back on, Miley gets some tattoos with Liam’s
family, she also gets a small tattoo of vegemite, Liam’s favorite
condiment. And Liam, in turn, opens up in an interview and talks
about how their breakup was hard on him but it was right at the time
when asked about the current state of affairs he says “people will
figure it out, they already have”. They show up on each other’s
Instagrams too.
2017
– 2018
The year is full of love, cute pictures
together and Miley writes and performs Malibu as a way of taking back
the control over the narrative of their relationship. She says it’s
been hard because she was going through a massive life change in 2013
and they’ve had to fall for each other all over again but Liam
basically saved her and she’s happy to be embarking on this journey
with him. They show up to the premiere of Thor:
Ragnarok together – a first public
outing as a couple in years. 2018 also features a lot of public
outings, some adorable pictures and videos together, Miley’s house
in Malibu burns down and Liam helps save her animals. Oh and
obviously they get married.
2019
The year starts with proclamations of love and
Liam even mentions that he’d love to have about 20 kids with Miley,
but later, when they don’t have so many dogs. But as we know now it
wasn’t all perfect. August 10 is the day the bug news was confirmed
– Miley and Liam are no more. They have broken up, Miley went on a
trip with Kaitlynn Carter, some pictures of them kissing surfaced,
and in the following days, Liam filed for divorce. Miley is getting
full custody of all their pets. Liam made a quit post on Instagram to
say “Hi all
